Holy Oryx and Crake on Marketplace!
We are beyond flattered to be included on the Marketplace episode that was recorded in Atlanta today. I have discovered so many great artists on this show, most notably DJ Shadow. Today’s show examines economics in Atlanta from many angles, and we are proud to be played alongside other local artists like Outkast and Darryl Reeves, who has played with Janelle Monae among other talented folks and works with Ryan at his day job. A clip from “Bed Death” starts at 22:33. GOOSEBUMPS.
the second annual oryx and crake twitter-friend secret santa mix-cd exchange
Dear Folks,
Last year we organized a Secret Santa mix-cd exchange among Twitter friends. With a few exceptions (cough, cough…Ryan), everything seemed to go swimmingly, so we’d like to do it again this year.
The mix-cds can be organized around whatever concept you prefer—best of this year, best of 1995, love songs, cat songs, songs from cartoons, morose instrumentals, songs that just make you dance, whatever.
This year, Oryx and Crake is going to make the mix as a band, although some of us may participate individually too.
Do it up. Make a physical thing. Bring random bits a joy to a person you might not even know yet.
To participate, DM or email me your home address by Sunday, December 4. I’ll get my mom or kid or neighbor to match everyone at random, and I will let you where to send your beautiful gift. Please mail by December 19 for maximum holiday joy.
Music you can touch with your hands, people.
Love,
Oryx and Crake
ps. As an added bonus, we’ve got a super special secret SECRET participant who is not actually old enough to be on Twitter, but if you happen to get this super special person’s mix you will be one lucky dog.
Check out Ryan’s mix of Dare Dukes covering Eno. The whole Dirty Covers mixtape is a great introduction to the Savannah music scene.

My camera phone pictures are such complete garbage, but Oryx and Crake and the Modern Skirts knocked my socks off last night. I left before Sea Lions LIKE AN IDIOT.
Do you have the Orxy and Crake record, citizens? You should. You will love it so much. It’s epic and brilliant and I came home from the show and listened to the album three times in a row, no exagg. I’m thrilled they are from Atlanta. If they were delicate Canadian musical geniuses, which they certainly sound like, I’d probably have to trek it up the East Coast to Boston or somewhere cold just to bask in their magical live shows.
At least I’d get to hang out with my Grandpa in Boston. He’s the best.
